Eric Ramsay | Derby point a 'just' outcome

Eric Ramsay Match Reaction.

Eric Ramsay believes his side’s point against Derby County on Friday night was a “just” one.

The Baggies went a goal behind at Pride Park, but fought back to grab a precious Sky Bet Championship point thanks to Chris Mepham’s 95th-minute equaliser.

The boss has pushed “real credit” in the direction of his players and staff, as they bounced back from defeat to Norwich City on Tuesday to put in a battling display in the East Midlands.

He said: “There’s an element of relief, but there’s also an element of it feeling just, based on the way the game was. We had good control of the game, certainly from a defensive perspective – we carried a reasonable threat while restricting them to very little.

“In the situation we’re in, following the game against Norwich, was a real credit to everyone involved. To suffer another setback in the way that we did, but to keep it together and keep plugging away was really impressive – that has to be the way we have to approach the rest of the year.

“We’ve tried to strike the balance between very tough conversations and making sure the line is drawn about what is and isn’t acceptable, but also making sure that we approach this game with a sense of positivity. We wanted to move forward and meet it with that sense of conviction, we did that from minute one to minute 90.

“We overcame some real difficulty and showed signs of a team that I know can move forwards this year.

“Playing away, particularly here, with them in form and the type of team they are – it was always going to be difficult. We felt we had control defensively, but they are a team that can create something out of very little.

“I was really pleased with that element of the game. On another day we did enough to win it I would say, with the general level of threat we carried.

“For us it was largely about the performance, but a point and something to build on was also crucial.

“It’s about us needing to take what we’ve done over the last two days, in terms of being laser-focused on the detail and making sure we’re a strong collective. We can’t get too bogged down with other results in the table, we’ve build some momentum, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves – we’ll take that into next week and won’t look any further.

“There’s certainly collateral damage (to Karlan Grant and Krystian Bielik, who both came off injured in Derby) after two games in the week. The physical output has paid a price today, I’m not sure how much of a price that will be, so I’ll reserve judgement until we look at them again.”
