Callum Styles | 'We need to give everything in these last seven finals'

Callum Styles says Albion will continue to embrace their collective responsibility to push the club up the Sky Bet Championship table following Saturday's victory over Bristol City.

The left-back provided the assist as George Campbell headed in the only goal of the game at Ashton Gate, meaning James Morrison’s side head into the international break unbeaten in four (winning their last two and recording back-to-back clean sheets).

A dominant Baggies display meant one goal was enough to notch a first away league win since October, with the visitors having plenty of opportunities to add to their advantage in the West Country.

And Styles, who has gone away with the Hungarian national team for their friendlies with Slovenia and Greece, believes carrying a positive feeling into this break from club football is just what the group need to maintain momentum when they return to action at The Hawthorns.

Callum said: “It’s a very good feeling going into the break.

"I’ve obviously got international duty and, of course, it’s an honour, but you don’t really get any rest.

"I’m coming back into a busy period straight after internationals, so I need to look after myself. I think the lads need a rest as well, but we need to do it right and we need to give everything in these last seven finals.

“To secure back-to-back league wins, which we haven’t had since August, was huge and we’ve just got to keep this level up.

“I think it was important that we scored first because when we do, we look like we can then create more chances. Obviously, we didn’t score a second on Saturday, but when you score first, you force your opponents to come out a bit more and then we get more opportunities when they try and counter us.

“We were delighted to keep the clean sheet as a whole team and back-to-back wins is very good for us."

Since James Morrison took interim charge, Albion have recorded eight points from five matches to create a four-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Styles believes the key behind this crucial run of results has been the impact of 'Mozza' and his coaching staff, and the 25-year-old feels the united focus between staff and players will help them continue the fight to remain unbeaten when they return to Championship action against Wrexham.

“I think we’ve simplified the game under Mozza,” Callum explained.

“We’ve got players playing in their preferred positions, we’re going back to the basics and everybody is just focusing on performing well.

“We’ve all come together and worked really hard behind the scenes. I think he’s just given us the license to take a bit of responsibility and feel confident in who we are as players.

“We want to get out of this situation as quickly as possible. We should never be down there, but obviously we haven’t performed as well as we’ve wanted to throughout the season. We have to keep this level up, win more games and get to safety. We can take a breather at that point, but until then, we’re working hard and we want to win every game."
