The Albion Foundation proudly welcomed 18 schools from across Sandwell to the West Bromwich Albion Academy on Wednesday, March 4, as they took part in the Biggest Ever Girls’ Football session—a day filled with fun, football, and fantastic opportunities for young girls.

Across the Academy’s impressive facilities, including the indoor dome and 4G pitch, 180 girls enjoyed a memorable experience designed to champion participation, teamwork, and confidence. Delivered in partnership with the School Games Programme, the event showcased the Foundation’s dedication to creating inclusive environments where all young girls can thrive through sport.

The day featured two strands: a competitive tournament, offering a platform for players eager to test themselves, and a non‑competitive festival, focusing on enjoyment, development, and encouragement. This flexible approach embodies the Foundation’s strategy committing to provide Football for All, ensuring that every young girl has an impactful experience in sport.

Adding to the positive atmosphere, members of our Post‑16 Girls programme, delivered in partnership with Sandwell College, were on hand throughout the event. Their support for players, teachers, and Foundation staff ensured that activities ran smoothly, while their energy and leadership helped keep everyone engaged and motivated. Their involvement demonstrated the strength of the pathway that exists within the Foundation—where young girls not only develop their own footballing and academic journeys but also give back by inspiring the next generation.

Energy and excitement filled the pitches from the moment the first whistle blew. Whether celebrating a great goal, encouraging teammates, or embracing new challenges, each participant contributed to an uplifting atmosphere that reflected the spirit of the Foundation’s community work.

After an excellent day of fixtures, Reddal Hill Primary School and St Matthew’s Primary School were crowned overall winners, demonstrating superb teamwork and enthusiasm throughout. However, every school played a vital role in the success of the event, with smiles, laughter, and positivity seen across all groups.

Hayley Probert, SGO & Girls’ Football Lead, shared her pride in the occasion:

“Today’s incredible event shows just how far girls’ football has come. Seeing nearly 200 girls from 18 schools from across Sandwell playing football together in such a positive, fun environment truly makes me so happy and proud.”

Her comments shine a light on what made the day so special. Events like these highlight the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting the growth of girls’ football and ensuring that every young girl feels welcomed, supported, and inspired.

The Albion Foundation extends a heartfelt thank you to all participating schools, teachers, Post‑16 volunteers, staff, and supporters whose enthusiasm and commitment helped bring this wonderful event to life. Together, we continue to build a community where young girls can enjoy football, develop skills, and create lasting memories both on and off the pitch.
