Academy graduate Alex Williams has signed a contract extension to keep him at The Hawthorns until the summer of 2028.

The right-back joined Albion aged 11, rising through the ranks before breaking into the senior team this season.

20-year-old Alex caught the eye when making his full first-team debut in August’s Carabao Cup tie against Derby. He also came on for a maiden Sky Bet Championship appearance during the Stoke fixture later that month.

Although an injury sustained while away with Wales Under-21s means he’s sidelined until after Christmas, Williams says he’s delighted to pen the new deal - and believes it will only add to his motivation when he returns from a spell out.

“I’m buzzing, this is where I want to be and where I want to play football,” said Alex. “I’ve had a taste for it at the start of the season, going to Austria, playing in the Carabao Cup, and then getting the last 10 minutes at Stoke.

“I’ve been loving it ever since the new gaffer arrived. All you want as a young player is to be given an opportunity and when I received that, I felt ready.

“I spoke to him (Ryan Mason) about the injury today and how recovery is going, him and all the staff have been so supportive. Hopefully, I’ll be back for the second half of the campaign.

“Now that I’ve got a few years ahead of me guaranteed, I can kick on. You can never rest in football and I’m going to continue working really hard.”

President and Sporting Director, Andrew Nestor, said: “This new contract for Alex underlines the good work he has put in to progress through our academy, going on to earn first team minutes this season.

“We are committed to the development of our young players, and we are pleased to have Alex continue his journey with the Albion, alongside the other young players who have signed new deals with us recently. We look forward to having Alex back out training with the rest of the squad once he has fully recovered from his recent injury.”
