Albion Blind continued their memorable season as they secured a historic domestic treble following their 2-0 victory over Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) to win the EE Disability FA Cup at St George’s Park.
Having previously beaten their opponents to win the Brian Aarons Cup back in May, the Baggies were looking to add further silverware and defend the title that they had won last year.
And they did just that, as two wonderful solo goals from Eesa Amjid gave Albion the upper hand on their long-standing rivals.
The Baggies started the first half brightly but were unable to break down a resilient RNC team meaning most of the first half was evenly balanced.
However, RNC had a perfect opportunity to take the lead just before the break but their effort was brilliantly saved by Owen Locke, meaning there would be nothing to separate both sides going into halftime.
The second half saw Albion dominate the game throughout, and they were awarded an early penalty that was perfectly saved to deny Efe Shimwell from giving his side the lead. The deadlock was finally broken a few minutes later when Amjid opened his account with a brilliant shot to give the Baggies the lead they deserved.
It soon became an afternoon to remember for the forward, as he skipped past the RNC defence and slotted home to increase Albion’s lead further.
In the end, it was enough to secure the Cup in what was a pulsating final, and cap off a season that will long be remembered.
Amjid was then proudly presented with the Player of the Match award - an experience that he will remember on a historic occasion for him and his team.
“It was a good team performance” described Amjid. “We came out with the intention of defending the trophy that we won last year so it’s an unbelievable achievement for us to win it again”
“Both teams were very counter attacking, especially throughout the second half so it was great for me to have the opportunity to shoot and score the goals that won the game for us.
“We always have a mindset of achieving things and we play very well as a team so it feels great to win this title again and secure the treble. It’s the first time we have achieved this as we came close last year but we fell short, so to come back stronger and win it this year is a great feeling for the team.
