Albion earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Oxford at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

Will Lankshear initially broke the deadlock for the visitors, before a United own-goal and Aune Heggebø’s effort secured the Baggies their comeback win.

The hosts tried to impose themselves early, yet didn’t capitalise on a series of set pieces, while Karlan Grant also sent a speculative volley wide.

Oxford survived that spell and created a few chances themselves, Przemyslaw Placheta firing wide and Josh Griffiths saving a Cameron Brannagan dipping attempt.

With half-time closing in, Mikey Johnston cut inside and hit one, but it went wide and left the teams level at the interval.

The game came to life almost immediately after the restart as both sides found the net. First, United opened the scoring via Lankshear’s 54th-minute close-range finish.

The Baggies then equalised straight away thanks to an own-goal - an Oxford defender diverting home Callum Styles’ cross.

Ryan Mason introduced Jayson Molumby alongside striker Heggebø, his side now pushing for all three points in B71.

And the turnaround was complete 20 from the end through the Norwegian substitute striker’s superb near-post header following Isaac Price’s pinpoint ball.

Albion had to ride out some late Oxford pressure - notably Griffiths twice stopping dangerous Brannagan shots. They did it successfully, though, grabbing a good triumph ahead of the November international break.
