Albion suffered their first home defeat since September on Boxing Day, losing 2-1 to Bristol City at The Hawthorns.
Early goals from Anis Mehmeti and Ross McCrorie earned the Robins the Sky Bet Championship win, despite Ousmane Diakite’s late consolation.
The Baggies went a goal down inside four minutes when Mehmeti’s low strike found the bottom corner.
Isaac Price had a golden opportunity to quickly equalise, racing through only to see his shot saved by City’s Max O’Leary.
The visitors’ goalkeeper then kept out Ousmane Diakite’s close-range header not long after, sticking out a strong arm to somehow deny the midfielder.
Albion were made to rue those missed chances as McCrorie hammered in Bristol City’s second and give them a two-goal advantage going into the break.
Following the interval, Karlan Grant saw one drive stopped and another attempt well blocked, before Aune Heggebø glanced an effort narrowly wide midway through the half.
Ryan Mason introduced Sam Iling-Junior and Daryl Dike, with the Baggies looking to get back in the game.
And they halved the deficit in the 85th-minute via Diakite’s maiden Albion goal, which set-up a grandstand finish.
However, even though Grant smacked the crossbar during stoppage time, the leveller ultimately didn’t arrive and Bristol City held on to secure the points.
