Albion Under-18s maintained their unbeaten start to the season after an impressive 4-2 win over Leeds United in their opening Premier League Cup group game on Wednesday afternoon.
A brace from Harry French, along with impressive efforts from Adam Letlat and Ryan Colesby, helped the young Baggies get their U18 PL Cup campaign off to the perfect start.
Right-back Alfie Maughan produced another influential display at the West Bromwich Albion Training Ground - providing three assists during the encounter, and it was from the defender’s cross where the club's teenagers found the opener.
Algeria U19 international Letlat was the beneficiary of his delivery, bursting into the box from the left flank to volley the cross in for 1-0 after just three minutes.
The hosts soon doubled their advantage before the break which, once again, came from a familiar source; Maughan sending in a fast-paced ball from the right, attacker French ghosting in behind the defence, and the first-year scholar poked in the second with 12 minutes on the clock.

In a comfortable position at the start of the second 45, things soon returned to a level playing field as the Whites got on top and scored two quick goals following the restart - restoring parity and making it anyone’s game to win.
Thankfully, it was Albion who got their noses in front courtesy of some individual brilliance from attacker Colesby - who received the ball outside of the 18-yard box, produced a piece of clever skill to beat his man, before curling a lovely effort into the top corner for 3-2 on 58 minutes.
And victory was confirmed when French rounded off the scoring, latching onto Maughan’s powerful, precise ball forward from deep and finishing confidently for the home team’s fourth goal in the final quarter of the match - ensuring the points stayed in Walsall.
A second success of the campaign meant the Baggies’ youth hopefuls not only made positive early strides in their PL Cup group (Group F), but they also extended their unbeaten run to three matches across all competitions at the start of the campaign.
