Ryan Mason | We're determined to fix our form

Ryan Mason insists Albion are heading into Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Oxford United “determined to fix the home form”.

The Baggies have their sights firmly set on securing three points against the U’s having gone four matches without a win and three without a goal.

Mason’s men have only been able to claim two triumphs from their six league fixtures at The Hawthorns so far this term, and were held to a goalless draw in front of their own supporters last weekend by bottom side Sheffield Wednesday.

The boss believes it’s crucial to shift the momentum following a challenging period and says both he and the players are extremely passionate about doing so.

Ryan said: “Last Tuesday was a sickener. I’ve been in football long enough to understand there are ups and downs.

“It hurt on Tuesday, but I’m as energised as ever, as passionate as ever and I have as much belief as ever in what we’re doing here.

“With any journey, there are always going to be bumps in the road and Tuesday was certainly one of those. We’ve had a few of those in the last few minutes of games this season and that can affect results, points and feelings from an outside perspective. Internally, we’re as determined as ever to put it right on Saturday.

“I don’t need picking up because it’s part of the game and you have to deal with it. I’m never going to be someone to shift blame on others. It’s always the manager’s responsibility.

“I love football and I have so much passion and energy for it. I know I’m strong and I’ve got good people around me. Challenges are all part of life, and how you stand up and face them is the most important thing.

“We’ve worked hard over the last few days and the players are dedicated, determined and they believe in what we’re doing. Results haven’t reflected that, but that’s football sometimes. That doesn’t mean we’re going to drastically change what we’re doing and tomorrow we’re approaching the game to try and win it.

“We need to respond. We don’t like losing games and we’ve lost too many games this season. The challenge is to put that right.

“We need to win. That’s the reality of football. We’ve prepared for Saturday’s game exactly how we would prepare for any other game. We want to win at home and our home form is important, but our results at The Hawthorns haven’t been great. We want to fix that and we’re determined to do so.

“Jayson Molumby has trained with the team. He’s had one session with the team so we’ll make a decision on him.

“Toby Collyer has also had one session with the team, but the extent of the training sessions we’ve had haven’t been too tough just because of the quick turnaround between games.

“We’ll have a look at things and decide on a squad from there.”
