Match Preview | Albion v Blackburn Rovers

Jed Wallace celebrates in the 2022/23 home kit

West Bromwich Albion will be looking to secure an eighth successive victory at The Hawthorns when Blackburn Rovers visit on Wednesday night in the Sky Bet Championship (ko 8pm).

The Baggies have recorded seven wins and seven clean sheets in their last seven matches in all competitions at the Shrine, last losing and conceding at the back end of October.

Carlos Corberán's team were beaten 2-0 at Birmingham City on Friday night and they'll be focused on returning to winning ways on Wednesday night.

Like Albion, opponents Blackburn also have play-off aspirations this season and sit just outside the top six ahead of their trip to the West Midlands.

Incredibly, Rovers didn't draw any of their first 27 league matches, but Saturday's 1-1 result at Watford was their third consecutive share of the spoils.

Our opponents

Blackburn Rovers have their sights firmly set on sealing a spot in the top six this season having narrowly missed out last term.

Rovers occupied positions in the top two and top six for large parts of 2021/22, but a disappointing final few months meant they missed out on a shot at a return to the Premier League - a competition they famously won in 1994/95.

Only top three Burnley, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough have won more Championship games this term than Blackburn, who've got 14 to their name from their 30 league matches.

Jon Dahl Tomasson, a former Denmark international and Newcastle United, Feyenoord and AC Milan striker, was appointed boss in the summer following Tony Mowbray's departure.

His side went 27 league games without a draw, but have since taken a point from each of the last three against Bristol City, Wigan Athletic and most recently Watford.

On their travels, Tomasson's men have lost nine of 16 Championship trips so far and are winless in their last four - a run they'll be determined to halt in midweek.

Blackburn are chasing a return to the top flight

From the Albion Archive

Albion beat Blackburn 3-2 at The Hawthorns in August 2019 in a game where all five goals arrived in the opening 45 minutes.

Rovers raced into an early lead thanks to Bradley Dack, but the Baggies then went and scored three times courtesy of strikes from Matty Phillips, Jake Livermore and Grady Diangana.

Bradley Johnson pulled one back on the stroke of half-time, but no further goals were added in the second period and the Baggies collected all three points.

Watch the highlights below.

One for the stattos

The Baggies have a really respectable recent home record against Rovers, losing just one of the last eight meetings at The Hawthorns.

Albion have won three and drawn the other four games with Wednesday's visitors.

The only defeat in that eight-match sequence was a 3-1 reverse in the Premier League in December 2010.

The two sides drew 0-0 in B71 last term.

There were no goals when Albion and Rovers met at The Hawthorns last time
