Jayson Molumby reacts to Derby County draw

Jayson Molumby is interviewed by WBA TV after the Derby game

Jayson Molumby admitted Albion’s point at Derby felt like a “relief” following a challenging period for the squad.

The Baggies arrived at Pride Park on a ten-game losing run away from home in the second tier, but halted that sequence in second-half injury time when Chris Mepham nodded in an equaliser at the back post – a goal which cancelled out Patrick Agyemang first-half opener at Pride Park.

Molumby, who delivered a tenacious display in the middle of the pitch, says performances and results haven’t been anywhere near good enough, but insists the group need to stick together and be “honest” with one another if they’re to move forward.

The midfielder said: “It’s definitely a relief. It’s hard to put into words because we’ve been below par for so many of the games.

“The last game especially was completely embarrassing and I’m including myself in that. I was embarrassed by that performance and result.

“We need to pull together and build from tonight. We have to be honest with each other, too. We’re team-mates and we love each other and we’ll fight for each other. We all get along, but we can’t be too nice when things aren’t going well.

“We need to be brutally honest with each other and that’s how it’s got to be until the end of the season now.

“I thought the performance tonight was solid away from home. The first goal for them is the story of our season really. There were a couple of errors and I’ve made a few of them this season, but we just can’t get away from it.

“Every mistake we’re making is getting punished. We need to cut them out.

“We need to take things game-by-game from now until the end of the season and our full focus is on Portsmouth.

“The bare minimum of the effort on show tonight is what we have to demand from each other at the very least. Things haven’t been good enough and we need to take it game-by-game and turn our attention to Portsmouth next week.”
