Jayson Molumby | Blackburn Rovers point a 'fair' one

Jayson Molumby is interviewed after WBA's draw with Blackburn

Jayson Molumby believes the Baggies were worthy of a point at Ewood Park after delivering a battling display against Blackburn Rovers

Albion and the hosts went head-to-head in a crucial clash towards the bottom end of the Sky Bet Championship table, but neither side managed to find the required moment of quality to break the deadlock.

Molumby, who captained the team on Easter Monday in Lancashire, admits there were “tired bodies” on show, but also stressed how much “togetherness” and “effort” was clear to see in their performance.

The Republic of Ireland international said: “I think the dressing room has mixed emotions after that one. Obviously, Blackburn is a tough place to come and they’re fighting for everything, just like we are. You could see that in the game.

“There wasn’t much quality from either team and it was more of a fight. We’re pleased with a point at the end of the day. I think a draw is probably a fair result. We had some chances and some moments on the counter, but our final ball just wasn’t quite right.

“Aune Heggebø had a massive chance, and then when we broke them down, the final ball just didn’t have the required quality on the day. Overall, a point is a fair result.

“Perhaps, there might have been a few nerves on show in the second half and there were a couple of us who were snatching at things rather than being calm. Maybe we lost a little bit of composure, but overall I think we’ve done well to get that back and see the game out. On another day we might have stolen it at the end, but, like I say, we’re pleased with a point.

“They switched formation at the start of the second half and they were better after the break. The formation change helped them and we probably started a bit slowly. Coming away from home in the Championship is tough so we’re pleased with the away performance.

Jayson Molumby applauding WBA fans after the Blackburn game

“It’s been a really tough period and our squad is depleted. We’ve had a few injuries and it’s been a big struggle for us. A lot of players have had a two-day turnaround and then gone straight back into the game. It’s a tough grind, but something you have to enjoy the challenge of and get on with it.

“We’ve got a little breather now, but it’s still only three or four days. There’s still so much to play for and we’ve got to go again on Friday.

“I think you can see there’s no lack of effort and a lot of togetherness out there. That’s blatant to see and I think that’s been the case for a long time now. You can see tired bodies, but certainly no lack of effort. I include myself in that. It’s been a tough couple of weeks and it’s taken it’s toll a little bit. We need to recover and go again.

“It’s a massive honour to lead West Bromwich Albion out. We’re a massive club. I’m proud to do that, but I don’t think about it too much. I just try to do my best and give off the best example.

“Our supporters were unbelievable today. Their support really does help. We’re shattered and we’re tired and we’re knee-deep in the mud at the minute. We’re grinding, but our fans definitely give us an extra ten or twenty per cent. Without them, maybe it’s a different story. It was a massive turnout and we’re really thankful.”
