James Morrison says he was “proud” of Albion’s performance at Sheffield United on Saturday.
The Baggies went 1-0 down in the early knockings of the second period at Bramall Lane when George Campbell turned the ball into his own net.
However, the American defender redeemed himself in the final ten minutes, firing an unstoppable strike from outside the box past Adam Davies to spark fantastic scenes in the away end.
Morrison insists to come from behind at the home of the Blades is not an easy thing to do and believes the players deserve credit for the way thay battled back to claim a point.
He said: “I’m proud of the players today, especially given the circumstances of going one down at a tough place to come.
“They’ve been a real threat lately at home, so to come back and get a draw is pleasing.
“I didn’t really feel threatened in the game until we had to push and we opened up.
“We were a bit passive in the first half and we addressed it at the break. We wanted to be more aggressive. We tried to do a few things differently and we tried to get the balance of being hard to beat and flipping the switch to be more aggressive right.
“You have to be ruthless with your chances when you come to a place like this. We needed something to hang on to, but, credit has to go to the lads for coming back from 1-0 down. They kept fighting until the end. I had changes in my mind, but I felt like the team was there. We’ve got two home games coming up on Wednesday and then Saturday so I was trying to look after the players.
“Overall, today is positive. There was a reaction after last Saturday at Oxford. I’m pleased with that.
“Max O’Leary gave us a big performance today and I asked that of him before the game. I didn’t think he made many saves, but we opened it up when we were 1-0 down and we were trying to get back into the game. They had one or two chances when we did that, but Max made some good saves.
“To come to a place like this, where they’ve beaten some really good opponents, and get a point – I’m happy.
“I’ve said to the lads that they’ve got to believe in the goal that we’re setting. We all need to believe and today tells me that we can.
“However, it’s only one game and we’ve got to keep doing it. We can’t get carried away because there are big challenges ahead. Let’s go from there.
“The support from the away end was massive, but I’m not surprised. They turn up every week and I told the lads that. I’ve got enough experience with the fans to know they’ll continue to support and understand.”
