James Morrison offers thoughts on Luton Town triumph

James Morrison is interviewed after Albion's win against Luton Town

James Morrison says he really enjoyed being in the dugout at The Hawthorns leading West Bromwich Albion on Saturday lunchtime.

His team produced an impressive performance, defeating Luton Town 5-3 on a thrilling afternoon in the West Midlands – a result which saw the visitors relegated to Sky Bet League One.

Tom Fellows and Callum Styles bagged braces, while Daryl Dike scored his first goal for the senior side since returning from a long-term injury.

Morrison believes the Baggies were dominant for large parts, but admitted feeling disappointed at letting the Hatters score two goals after they went 5-1 up.

He said: “I thought we were really good today up until the 60th minute and then we made a few changes. That seemed to disrupt the game.

“We were a bit sloppy and we let them get back into the game, which I didn’t see coming. That was my major disappointment that we let them get back into it and that we didn’t score more goals because I feel like they were there for the taking.

“For an hour we were pushing and pushing and after all them goals they dropped a little bit, and then we dropped. After that, that’s when it felt like an end of season game.

“Tom Fellows has been an assist man and we’ve been trying to add goals to his game. Daryl Dike has been knocking on the door and he’s had to be patient. I’m really glad he got his goal, but I thought his all-round game was really good today. I’m so happy for him.

“I really enjoyed being in the dugout at The Hawthorns and leading the team. Myself and the coaching team have a good balance and we worked well. Football is strange and you’ve always got to be on your toes.

“Did I see myself standing there in the dugout? Probably not, but it definitely gave me a taste for it.

“I understand the frustration from the supporters and this result certainly won’t hide the bigger picture. I fully understand that.

“Hopefully, the supporters can also see that we’ve tried to put the performances in over the last two weeks and that’s all we could have asked for.”
