James Morrison | I was so impressed by the performance

James Morrison is interviewed after Albion's win over Hull

James Morrison was full of praise for Albion's dominant performance over Hull City at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Morrison's men picked up three crucial Sky Bet Championship points thanks to a convincing 3-0 scoreline against the Tigers, with Josh Maja, Aune Heggebø and Isaac Price all on target.

The hosts were by far the better team throughout the contest and, on another day, could've scored even more goals.

The interim head coach says his side were "knocking on the door all game" and believes they were worthy winners.

He said: “I was very impressed with the performance. From start to finish we were on top and creating chances. We had 26 shots and we were hitting the target. We were ruthless in front of goal.

“We came out at the start of the second half and we were a bit cagey, but then we started to get to grips with things and played our game. We kept attacking and kept Hull going back towards their goal. We continued with fast attacks, which I keep asking the lads for. Credit to them.

“My team selection today was probably the hardest one I’ve done. I was thinking about the fact it was the third game in the week and I was questioning whether the same players could do it again. Southampton was a tough game physically and then there was a lot of emotion at the end. I took my time and then listened to my head, before going with my gut.

“I’m really pleased that it could’ve been five or six on another day, because recently we’ve needed about six or seven chances to score one. We could’ve had a penalty, Callum Styles has hit the post and their keeper has made some good saves. We kept knocking on the door all game. We have to attack like that when we’re here at The Hawthorns because that’s what the fans want to see.

“We’ve been talking a lot in training about the types of goals we scored today – getting the ball wide, crosses coming in and players being in the right positions to get shots off. We put that into action today. I want more players in the box and quality crosses coming in.

“I was really happy for Josh Maja. I was thinking about a few of the balls that went into the box the other night against Southampton, how he probably would’ve been on the end of them. He took his chance.

“I’ve asked for consistency and individuals consistently performing well. Danny Imray has probably been on the top of that list. We want to attack with our full backs and he was top-notch today. Credit to him, especially being a young player and having a tough start. He’s got to grips with things.

“It’s up to us to put those performances on so the fans can sing like that. It’s only a start. We’ve asked the players to keep building layers to the performances. We’re trying to improve and get better with every game. We might not always play as well as that, but as long as we’re clinical in front of goal and keep a clean sheet then it’ll be pleasing.”
