James Morrison says he was really pleased with Albion’s first-half performance at home to Wrexham on Good Friday, but says the second half threw up plenty of moments they need to learn from.
The Baggies were 2-0 ahead at the break following efforts from Isaac Price and Josh Maja, but the visitors delivered a much-improved display after the interval and drew level courtesy of strikes from Josh Windass and George Dobson.
Both teams had chances at the end with Daryl Dike and Kieffer Moore seeing attempts thwarted by the opposition goalkeepers.
Morrison believes his team “dropped off” in the second 45, but insists the group are heading up to Blackburn Rovers on Easter Monday in “positive” spirits having extended their unbeaten run to five matches.
The interim head coach said: “I was really pleased with the first-half performance. I thought we were so dominant.
“It’s a tricky scoreline, 2-0, and we spoke about keeping momentum in the game and keeping it in our favour.
“To concede the first at the time that we did turns the game on its head. They’re a top-six side and they’re a good team so they were always going to put us under a bit of pressure. It was about how we dealt with it.
“At 2-2 I was a bit worried, but, on the other hand, we could’ve won that game at the end and that would’ve been a sign of a good side.
“We’re now five unbeaten and we’re going to be heading up to Blackburn with positive vibes.
“The 2-0 lead at half-time was a deserved lead. We were dominant and I was really pleased with the lads. It was just about game management and their first goal was a killer for us.
“I mentioned at half-time how the next goal would be crucial. I wanted us to push on and keep the game around their box like we did in the first half.
“Wrexham have players at the top end of the pitch who are a threat and you saw that with Josh Windass’ finish – it was top-notch.
“We dropped off a bit too much in the second half, we didn’t really put any pressure on the ball and we weren’t good enough in the second balls. When we had the ball, we couldn’t quite move it like we did in the first half.
“It’s certainly something to learn from. We’ll pick the pieces up tomorrow and go through the game and get ready for Monday.
“Credit to the lads because they stuck with it and dug in. It’s a point gained. The togetherness was there and in difficult moments you have to stick together.
“We have to take each game as it comes, but it’s another game ticked off. There are six big games to go and we just need to focus on ourselves and our performances. If we do that then I’m confident the results will come.”
