George Campbell’s arrival at West Bromwich Albion bolsters the club’s options in the defensive department.

The 24-year-old American, who steps foot in the UK for the first time in his life, has penned a four-year contract at The Hawthorns having departed MLS outfit CF Montréal.

Albion’s new man was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on June 22, 2001 and played football locally before his family relocated to Atlanta.

George joined Atlanta United’s youth academy as a young lad and went on to represent their second side, impressing as a centre back.

In July 2019, he signed a homegrown player deal with the senior side, effective from the start of the 2020 season. His first-team debut with Atlanta United arrived on March 7, 2020, with George coming on late in the first period as his team defeated FC Cincinnati 2-1.

Campbell played plenty of football in 2021, appearing in MLS, CONCACAF Champions League and USL Championship matches for the first and second teams. He scored his maiden goal in September of that year, notching the first in a 3-0 win over an Orlando City side which had Baggies forward Daryl Dike in it.

George added 21 further first-team appearances to his tally the following term, but ended 2022 by signing a three-year deal for CF Montréal on December 13.

The defender played 29 times for his new team in 2023, making his debut in a 2-0 home triumph over New York Red Bulls in April. Campbell’s first goal for the Canadian club came in dramatic circumstances, bagging a late, late winner in a 1-0 home victory against New England Revolution in August.

George set a new personal milestone in 2024, completing 2,197 minutes for Montréal in their defence in MLS fixtures – an achievement which highlighted his importance to the side.

Those performances in 2024 led to a full international debut in January 2025. Campbell played the majority of the USA’s 3-1 friendly win over Venezuela in Miami, coming off with two minutes of normal time remaining. Albion’s newest addition had previously represented his country at both U20 and U23 levels.

He heads to The Hawthorns having appeared in 16 MLS matches in 2025. His final game for Montréal saw him come up against world superstars Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. The Argentinian legend bagged a brace in a 4-1 win for Inter Miami.

George will be determined to showcase his capabilities as quickly as possible in England and force his way into Ryan Mason's starting XI.
