Last time out

The Baggies secured their passage into the Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round with a comprehensive win over Leeds United on Sunday.

Pre-match thoughts

Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still would love nothing more than to claim a derby day victory at the Alexander Stadium.

Born and raised in West Bromwich as a childhood Albion fan, the boss knows what it means to represent the supporters in a Black Country derby.

Looking ahead to this weekend, Hodgetts-Still says that the team have “character” to build on their most recent home game against Wolves, a penalty shootout victory in the Birmingham County FA Challenge Cup.

She said: “We’re really happy with how we played last weekend, we’ve not got the goals that we would’ve liked over the last few weeks. Sunday was very pleasing from my point of view.

“We created some really good moments, from how we progressed the ball, created chances – it was great to watch at times. We scored three very good goals and I’m happy with the team’s performance.

“Wolves have been a very strong side in our league across the last few years. Beating them on penalties was a great feeling for all of us, having lost at The Hawthorns, to then play them a few months later and win – it showed the character of the squad.

“It shows the mentality to get through tough moments like that and that day was special. It’s always nice beating Wolves when you are a Baggies fan, we went on to win the cup too which is great.

“The group are excited, they’re full of confidence from last weekend, and we’ll take that into this game. It’s never nice to be on the wrong side of a derby day, and we don’t want to have those feelings again.

“In terms of where the group are now, since I first came in, the group and the squad has got better each year. There’s a real togetherness and we’ll push to go and do well to finish as high as we can.”
