Albion were forced to settle for a point against in-form Southampton following a late goal at The Hawthorns on Wednesday evening.
Jayson Molumby’s opener was the least James Morrison's side deserved heading into the break. A fierce battle - alongside some resolute defending - had kept the Saints quiet all half.
And they continued to impress with a brilliant performance throughout the second period, only to see the spoils shared after Cyle Larin headed home in added time.
James Morrison’s men started well without finding an opener. Aune Heggebø’s flick - tipped over by Daniel Peretz - is the closest they went during the early stages.
But Southampton then enjoyed a dominant spell themselves, with Jack Stephens having one header go off-target and another saved, while Leo Scienza also curled wide and Max O’Leary stopped a Ross Stewart effort.
Albion navigated that spell, though, and finished the half strongly. Isaac Price smashed a volley just past the post before, in stoppage time, the breakthrough arrived.
A Callum Styles corner caused absolute chaos as Daryl Dike initially saw his attempt cleared off the line - however, Molumby was there to turn and hammer the rebound home, giving the Baggies a narrow lead going into the break.
The Hawthorns roared Albion on as they continued their efforts after the restart - watching Price and Dike test Peretz from good opportunities.
Southampton poked and prodded, but didn't have a clear-cut chance until their late goal.
Larin rose highest from a cross, sending a looping header against the crossbar and down onto the inside of the post in the 91st minute.
And so, despite an outstanding showing of grit and determination, the Baggies had to settle for a point against the division's in-form side.
