In arriving at the Albion from southern France, Nolan Galves brings with him plenty of intrigue.
The 23-year-old joins from Ligue 2 outfit Rodez AF after two impressive seasons, during which he showed plenty of promise and became one of the division’s leading wing-backs.
Hailing from the French-Swiss border, Galves moved from Sochaux-Montbéliard - his first professional club, the same to have harnessed the talents of current France internationals Ibrahima Konaté, Marcus Thuram and Maxence Lacroix - to Rodez after making his debut in the third-tier.
He dealt with the step-up well, and his first campaign for Le RAF saw him make 31 appearances, scoring two goals as they finished 14th in Ligue 2 - but it was last season where supporters at the Stade Paul-Lingon saw the best of Nolan.
Playing on the flank of a back five, and the eighth-strongest defensive unit in the French second-tier, Galves was given license to maraud forward at will, and created plenty from those ventures into the opposition half.
In fact, boss Didier Santini was keen for both of his wing-backs to advance into forward areas, with Evans Jean-Lambert - playing on the opposite side of the field - also well-positioned within the assist rankings across 2025/26 (nine).
Similarly with Galves, who notched seven assists last term, the joint-fourth highest in Ligue 2, and the highest of any right-back in the league en route to a fourth-placed finish.
A serial chance creator on Rodez’s right-hand-side, it’s no surprise to see the wing-back towards the top of the assist charts. Especially after learning he ranks within the top three per cent of full-backs in the division for chances created per 90 minutes played (48 total), and the top five per cent for big opportunities crafted for team-mates (10).
Those chances were largely produced via his varied range of crossing from that side of the field. Galves finds his team-mates in the penalty area by cutting the ball back to the penalty spot to meet a deep run, or by looping an inviting delivery towards the back post.
And he clearly hit the target frequently by producing the highest number of successful crosses of any player in Ligue 2 across 2026/27.

The wing-back sometimes uses quick pieces of trickery to gain a yard of space on his opposing number, and can be seen using his low centre of gravity to drive the ball into dangerous areas too.
He ranks within the top five per cent of full-backs for successful dribbles per 90 minutes played (27), while also boasting 52 chances created.
And all of these attacking attributes were perfectly displayed in their 3-3 draw away at Pau back in January. Galves grabbed two assists on the day, and played a key role in helping Rodez come back from a goal down on three occasions.
His first assist came after just five minutes. The wing-back broke onto the last line of defence to receive a perfectly-weighted through ball and cutback to the penalty spot for Samy Benchamma to sweep home. To equalise for 3-3, Galves swung a corner onto the head of Clément Jolibois with four minutes left to play.
Those types of performances, which demonstrate his zeal to burst forward from defence, will surely be well-received by The Hawthorns faithful.
