Albion and Sheffield Wednesday played out a goalless draw at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

Neither side could grab a winner in the Sky Bet Championship match, meaning the points were shared.

Albion threatened early and forced goalkeeper Ethan Horvath into a decent stop to deny Mikey Johnston’s effort, while Isaac Price flashed one wide, too, all inside the opening four minutes.

Josh Griffiths was rarely tested, only really having to hold Svante Ingelsson’s tame shot, with the majority of play taking place in Wednesday’s half.

Alex Mowatt saw his side-footed strike well saved midway through the first period as the Owls continued to frustrate Ryan Mason’s men.

Josh Maja did almost net before the interval, Horvath saving the attacker’s near-post header, and Johnston fired another long-range attempt just wide, leaving the game goalless at the break.

The teams exchanged chances during the second half - Ousmane Diakite nodding over for Albion and Wednesday’s Ike Ugbo having a low finish comfortably held by Griffiths.

And that trend continued when Baggies winger Johnston couldn’t quite find the bottom corner after cutting in, ahead of Owls player Yan Valery smashing a half-volley off-target.

Mason introduced Karlan Grant and Aune Heggebø to try and help earn his team the victory, but ultimately the scoreline remained level.
