Shan provides fitness update

Jimmy Shan expects Craig Dawson to fight back from a sickness bug to be fit to play at Bristol City on Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old centre-half missed Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship clash against Millwall on Saturday with a virus.

Albion’s first-team coach also provided updates on Gareth Barry and Matt Phillips.

“We’ve kept Craig Dawson away because with sickness it’s always 48 hours. We need to make sure he gets food in him and he hydrates so things settle down with him. One to look after himself but two to make sure the sickness bug doesn’t spread.

“I’ll have an update off the club doctor and medical team today to see where he is, but Craig being Craig, if he’s rested and recuperated I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

He added: “Gareth Barry has had a little bit of a setback with illness as well. I think a sickness bug has gone across the country.

“Matty Phillips is back out on the grass so he worked on Monday and he’ll do the same on Tuesday. He’ll do that through the course of the week and will hopefully be available at the weekend.”
