From the vibrant chaos of Delhi’s bustling streets to the calm, breath‑stealing silence of the Indian Himalaya, this remarkable expedition offers an unforgettable introduction to one of the world’s most captivating countries.

Your challenge begins in Dharamsala, home of the Dalai Lama and a peaceful refuge for the Tibetan community. Here, the mighty Uhl River winds its way through pristine landscapes, untouched trails and the soaring peaks of the world’s highest mountain range. It’s a region defined by tranquillity, spirituality and staggering natural beauty — and for a short time, it becomes your home.

The Dalai Lama Himalayan Trek Challenge is rated Challenging — and rightly so. It’s crafted for those who are relatively fit, adventurous at heart and ready to embrace something extraordinary. Previous trekking experience is helpful but by no means essential; with the right preparation, anyone with determination can take it on. The route reaches altitudes of up to 3,000 metres, but the steady trekking terrain helps balance the demands of the climb.

Along the way, you’ll follow remote paths far from tourist hotspots, walk through landscapes seen only by the locals who call these mountains home, and experience a side of India that few travellers ever do.

During this unforgettable journey, you will be:

  • Trekking an average of 15km-20km per day.
  • Going to high altitude, and reaching a maximum altitude of 3000 metres above sea level.
  • Trekking through unique remote areas in which you will see no other tourists or trekkers
  • Staying in lodges with very basic facilities, or camping
