WBA Cerebral Palsy FC Match Reports
National Cerebral Palsy Cup: Saturday, May 9, 2026.
West Bromwich Albion’s cerebral palsy team had a journey to be proud of in the National Cerebral Palsy Cup at St George’s Park, as they reached the semi-finals and only fell short on penalties.
The Baggies began their day with a 1-1 draw against York City in the first match of their group stage. The visitors had plenty of chances early on before Archie Billingham’s strike gave his side the lead they had been looking for.
But despite their early setback, York responded a few minutes later which ensured that both sides would start their campaigns with a point.
Ryan Kimberley’s side made a statement in their second match with an emphatic 6-0 win over Bristol City. Despite early dominance from the Robins, Callum Barnes was able to expose their vulnerabilities at the back and immediately broke the deadlock.
Goals from Morgan Carter and Archie Billingham later followed, before Barnes crossed the ball in for Corey Komorowski’s header and Dylan Langford’s brace rounded off a perfect victory in what was mostly a one-sided match.
This spirited performance and scoreline was repeated into their final group stage fixture against Chelsea Yellows, with Komorowski’s quality earning himself a hat trick before Barnes and Langford added themselves on the scoresheet as well.
The main highlight of the game though came from Sajad Ramezanoi, who scored an unbelievable overhead kick when Albion thought they had missed a golden opportunity to increase their lead.
But nevertheless, Ryan Kimberley’s side won their group stage comfortably, scoring 13 goals and only conceding once throughout their entire group campaign.
This set up a much anticipated semi-final tie against Norwich City, who were dominant and plenty of chances throughout the game as Albion tried to match them. But neither side could find a breakthrough, resulting in a penalty shootout.
Unfortunately, the Baggies would fall short as Callum Barnes’ spot kick was saved and the Canaries won 3-2 in the shootout. They would later win the National Cerebral Palsy Cup following a 2-0 victory over CP United in the final.
But nevertheless, it was a journey to be proud of and Ryan Kimberley’s side still received their share of credit during the presentation, with Ramezanoi’s overhead kick winning Goal of the Tournament.
“Football can be a cruel, but beautiful game at the same time” described Kimberley. “It’s unfortunate that we came unstuck on penalties, given we had a lot of opportunities throughout the game, and on another day we could have won and progressed through to the final”.
“But I am so proud of the players and can’t fault them for their efforts today. We made a really good account of ourselves throughout the competition and hopefully we can take this forward heading into next season”.
Albion: Stanway, Carter, Roberts, Hampton, Johnson, Langford, Chase, Barnes, Komorowski, Burns, Ramezanoi, Billingham, Kesterton, Brookes.

Norwich vs WBA 11:30am
WBA endured a difficult start as Norwich took immediate control, scoring within the opening 10 seconds after a sloppy turnover to make it 1–0. Just a minute later, Norwich doubled their lead with a composed finish from the right side, putting WBA 2–0 down after only two minutes.
WBA showed resilience despite the early pressure and began to form a better defensive shape. Goalkeeper Stanway produced several good saves to keep Norwich at bay, but the pressure eventually proved too much as Norwich added their 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th goals before the half-time whistle.
WBA started the second half with a quick attacking move that struck the post and began to see more possession. Tactical changes were made due to injuries, including substitutions and a shift to a deeper counter-attacking shape. Norwich continued to control the game, with the match finishing 11–0 to the team in yellow. Despite the difficult scoreline, WBA continued to work hard and compete throughout the match.
Norwich vs York 12:30pm
West Brom started brightly, winning a corner in the 3rd minute after good work from Saj Ramezanoi. From the set piece, Morgan Carter came close, passing the ball just wide of the post. York responded quickly and in the 5th minute took the lead with a fast attack down the right, finishing past Corey Komorowski to make it 1–0.
Both teams moved the ball well, with WBA looking dangerous on the counter. Komorowski made several strong saves, including a good stop down to his right and another from a York free kick on the edge of the box. York continued to press, but WBA created chances of their own, with Saj Ramezanoi forcing a good save from the York goalkeeper.
In the 14th minute WBA equalised. Ramezanoi burst down the wing and cut the ball back for Dylan Langford, who finished calmly to make it 1–1. Albion grew in confidence after the goal, creating further chances through Morgan Carter and Karl Johnson as the game became evenly contested going into half-time.
York started the second half with an early effort that went wide before regaining the lead in the 25th minute, sliding the ball past the goalkeeper after a move that looked to have gone out of play. WBA continued to battle, but York extended their lead in the 33rd minute with a strike from 12 yards that slipped through the goalkeeper.
West Brom pushed forward and nearly responded when Callum Burns hit the side netting from inside the box. However, York added a fourth goal in the 39th minute with a well-worked team move, sealing a 4–1 win despite WBA continuing to create chances late on.
WBA vs Chelsea - 2pm
Chelsea started with early pressure, winning a corner in the 2nd minute, but WBA defended well. West Brom settled into the game with good possession in midfield, although an early mistake from Corey Komorowski nearly proved costly before he recovered with an excellent save. Lewis Roberts’ hard work won a free kick for Albion, which led to a blocked effort from Morgan Carter.
The game remained very even with few clear chances. Komorowski made another strong save from a Chelsea shot from distance, while WBA continued to defend well as a team and dealt comfortably with a Chelsea corner. Chelsea eventually broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when a player beat several defenders before a deflected strike found the net to make it 1–0.
Chelsea controlled possession early in the second half and doubled their lead in the 25th minute after WBA lost the ball, allowing Chelsea to counter and finish through the goalkeeper’s legs. Albion responded quickly from a corner when Saj Ramezanoi scored with an impressive overhead kick to pull the score back to 2–1, although he was forced off injured shortly after.
The second half remained fairly quiet in terms of chances, but Komorowski kept WBA in the game with several important saves, including a strong double stop. Matt Hampton also produced excellent defending and drove forward with the ball during a positive Albion moment. Despite WBA’s efforts, Chelsea added a late third goal to seal a 3–1 victory.
