Albion Women Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still says her side need to “start scoring” following their goalless draw with Loughborough Lightning.
The Baggies were held to a stalemate on Sunday afternoon, their second game in-a-row that they haven’t notched in at the Alexander Stadium – despite plenty of opportunities going the hosts’ way.
Hodgetts-Still wants her side to be more clinical in-front of goal, and the perfect place to start is their Adobe Women’s FA Cup tie against Leeds next weekend (December 14).
She said: “I’m glad we got a point from the game. The game could’ve gone either way, and we’re disappointed that we didn’t get all three points.
“We had the chances to get the win and we’ve got to start putting them away. We know, as a group, that a point from the last two games isn’t good enough.
“We’ll go away and work on this ahead of last week. The game was very transitional, there were two teams out there that wanted three points.
“We attacked a lot so they were able to counter-attack a lot, but I thought we defended really well. The last 15/20 minutes, we were camped in their half and had several chances, but we’ve got to start putting them away.
“When we played Leeds a few weeks ago, they were a really good team. They were organised and we understand how they’ll play, we’ll go out there with new ideas to start scoring so we can get through to the fourth-round.”
Defender Taylor Reynolds agreed with the boss, and says that her team can “relieve” pressure on the back-line by taking their chances to score.
“It’s a disappointing one to take today,” Reynolds said. “We wanted to get three points and we didn’t get that last week either.
“As far as the performance goes, we did well and we created good opportunities. When we had a winning run of seven games, we had confidence – we just want to get that back and we will get it back again.
“The building-up to the final-third is great, and we’re much better than last season in that respect. We just need to work on our finishing, we’re doing a lot in training but hopefully the goals will start to come.
“I feel the chances we’re creating are good ones. If we put one of those away, we relieve a bit of pressure on the back line, but I believe in our team.
“Last week they had three chances and scored one. We limited their chances even more this week, we’ll keep trying our best not to concede.
“It’ll be a tough game against Leeds United, they took us to penalties in the FAWNL Cup game against them. It’ll be a good game.”
