Ryan Mason | I'm pleased with so many elements of Dynamo Kyiv match

Ryan Mason is interviewed by WBA TV out in Austria after the Dynamo Kyiv game

Ryan Mason says he was incredibly pleased with “so many elements” of his side’s showing against Dynamo Kyiv.

Albion drew 1-1 with the Ukrainian champions – who will participate in UEFA Champions League qualifiers later this month – at their training base in Austria on Friday lunchtime.

Mason used a total of 21 players and insists they performed really well at the end of what’s been a physically demanding week of pre-season graft on the continent.

The boss said: “I’m really pleased with so many elements of the game today. I thought we played a good match both with and without the ball off the back of a really tough, intense training week.

“There were lots of positives. I think we’ve had growth in the last seven days out here. It’s been intense, but we wanted that. You could see a lot of that work that we’ve been putting in, in the match today.

“Naturally, there are some things we need to fix and we need to keep improving, but, most importantly, everyone bought into what we want to do and there was a togetherness.

“It was a good test because they’re a very, very good side. Both teams had moments where they played well, but overall, I’m very pleased with the match.

“It’s important to see the growth that we’ve had. We’ve put a lot of work in and normally you wouldn’t go into a game that physically fatigued, but that’s part of pre-season. We need to learn to play under that stress.

“The most important thing is us and our performance. Like I said, there were a lot of positives and some good individual performances. Collectively, there were a lot of good things that I’m happy with.

“We wanted to see some things we’ve worked on in the week today, and we’ve seen that. We understand there’s still lots of work to do and that’s exciting for us.”
