Richard Beale hoping to continue PL Cup run ahead of Huddersfield clash

Richard Beale leads training at Albion's Walsall HQ

Albion PL2 boss Richard Beale has described Monday's Premier League Cup clash with Huddersfield Town as a must-win match, as his side look to stay in the competition.

The young Baggies will be very much reliant on results going against the teams around them in Group C, but are in need of an important three points at Keys Park to stay in the running for qualification to the knockout stages.

Three defeats on the spin in the tournament doesn't make for pleasant reading following last season's trophy-winning success, but the young Baggies will look to use the attacking prowess which has prevailed regularly on homes soil this term.

Reyes Cleary has netted 12 goals during the campaign, while Jovan Malcolm has eight to his name this year, and Beale says his team need to show no shortage of "personality and quality" against the Terriers on Monday afternoon (ko 1pm).

He said: "The squad's looking good ahead of Monday.

"The boys have been working extra hard these last couple of weeks because we haven't had a game.

"We've been able to cover a lot of work that we've wanted to leading up to Christmas and we're really looking forward to this game.

"The lads are chomping at the bit to get out there and, ultimately, it's a game we need to win to stay in the cup so we're hoping to continue that excitement of knockout football.

"I want to see the boys put in a full hammer display with lots of personality, lots of effort and no shortage of quality.

"We played Huddersfield quite recently and lost so we're looking to get one back over on them too.

"The squad will be a bit of a mix of 18s and 21s, as it always is, which is fantastic to get a few more younger lads in and around the team."
