Nat Phillips | We were disciplined in QPR win

Nat Phillips is interviewed after scoring at home to QPR

Defender Nat Phillips says his side were “desperate” to turn their recent disappointment into a win as Albion recorded a welcome 2-1 win over QPR at The Hawthorns.

Phillips nodded home the Baggies’ second of the evening after George Campbell had done similar in the first half - those headers either side of an Ousmane Diakité own goal.

The 28-year-old believes his team executed their game plan to perfection, amidst a physically demanding festive period for the squad.

He said: “There’s been a lot of frustration and disappointment recently and we’ve been desperate to turn that around.

“Tonight, it was nice to get a positive result, coupled with a positive performance. It’s important to build on that now.

“Our home record is something that we pride ourselves on. We want to improve away, of course, but we also want to maintain the sort of home record. It was frustrating to let that slip recently.

“I thought the performance was good tonight, we executed the game plan well. We were disciplined when we had to be – there were moments when QPR put us under pressure, but we dealt with that well.

“It was frustrating to concede the goal in the manner that we did. It would’ve been nice to get another clean sheet, but that’s something to look at.

“We could’ve had a few more goals on the counter-attack, so it would’ve been nice to score a few more. Overall, it was well-managed and we've got a positive result.

“Set-pieces are something that we’ve worked on throughout the season. We recognise that we weren’t particularly threatening earlier in the season, but we’ve worked on it and it’s nice to see it pay off.

“To be fair for my goal, I’ve got to give the credit to Mikey [Johnston]. The ball was perfect. All I had to do was get my head on it, there was no power needed.

“It was just a case of getting my head on it and directing it on target.”
