Loan review: Five feature in three separate competitions

Josh Griffiths in training

Five Albion players featured across three different competitions in England for their loan clubs over the weekend.

Cedric Kipre was in Sky Bet Championship action on Saturday, helping Cardiff City to a narrow 1-0 victory up at Sunderland.

The defender completed 90 minutes at the Stadium of Light where Mark Harris’ goal won it for the visitors.

Three youngsters were in action in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup, including goalkeeper Josh Griffiths, defender Caleb Taylor and winger Tom Fellows.

Griffiths played the full game for Portsmouth who beat non-league Hereford 3-1 at Edgar Street on Friday night, a clash which was shown live on the BBC.

Pompey fell behind when Miles Storey slotted the ball home against his former club, but Griffiths’ men hit back and scored three times to book their place in the second round. Reeco Hackett-Fairchild, Colby Bishop and Joe Pigott were all on target.

On Saturday, Taylor and Fellows both played 90 minutes but both suffered disappointing defeats.

Taylor’s Cheltenham Town were beaten 2-1 at home by Alvechurch. Danny Waldron scored twice for the seventh-tier side, with Ryan Jackson finding the net for the Robins.

Fellows’ Crawley Town were comfortably beaten 4-1 by Sky Bet League One side Accrington Stanley on home soil. Shaun Whalley hit a hat-trick for the guests, with Ethan Hamilton also on the scoresheet. Town’s goal came courtesy of Jake Hessenthaler.

Finally, young forward Mo Faal started for AFC Telford United as they lost 3-0 at Blyth Spartans in the Vanarama National League North.

Faal got through 58 minutes before being swapped for Jason Oswell. Blyth won it thanks to two strikes from Matthew Cornish and an own goal from Harry Flowers.
