Furlong extends Hawthorns stay

Furlong new contract

Darnell Furlong has penned a new long-term contract extension at The Hawthorns.

The 25-year-old, who signed from QPR two seasons ago, has agreed a deal which will keep him with the Baggies until 2025.

The No.2 is the third player to agree a new Albion contract today, joining Matt Phillips and Kyle Bartley.

Furlong will make his 70th appearance for the club if he starts the 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship opener at Bournemouth on Friday night, and the boss is thrilled to have his right wing-back tied down for a further four years.

Val said: “The wing-back positions in our system and philosophy are the most intense and exposed position – out of possession and especially in possession – and Darnell has the perfect profile.

“When I came, I recognised straight away that he is made for the position and made for us.

“He’s perfect for us and, with his quality and if he can stay healthy this season, he will put us on another level.”
