Albion Women made it two wins from two FAWNL Cup Group N games with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Birmingham City PGA on Wednesday evening.
First-half Hawthorns goals by Jess Collyer and Taylor Reynolds put Charlie Fripp’s side in a commanding position at the break, before Tara Kirk rounded-off the scoreline midway through the second period despite Asiah Janny’s consolation.
The result confirms the Baggies’ safe passage through to the knockout stages. They will face Sporting Khalsa this Sunday in a straight shootout for top spot.
The hosts peppered their opponents with early efforts, but young Blues goalkeeper Tarlayah Abrahams kept out Abbey Jones, Reynolds and Monique Robinson.
However, the deserved breakthrough did come in the 31st minute via Collyer - Albion’s No.9 netting a rebound after Kirk’s initial shot was saved.
And that lead doubled ahead of half-time when Reynolds sent a ball in from the right, which flew all the way into the far corner.
The game was then put beyond doubt on the hour mark thanks to Kirk, who grabbed her first Albion goal as she nodded home a superbly delivered corner.
Birmingham’s youngsters did pull one back 20 minutes before full-time, former Baggie Janny converting a close-range header.
Fripp’s team controlled the remainder of the game, though, to earn their fifth consecutive triumph across all competitions.
