A convincing showing at the Alexander Stadium meant Albion Women beat Hull City Ladies on Sunday afternoon.
The Baggies made it two wins from two matches with goals from Lucy Day and Marli Rhodes, which came either side of the halfway mark, leaving Hope Knight’s late strike to be nothing more than a consolation.
Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made three changes to the side that beat Halifax. Goalkeeper Charlotte Clarke, defender Day and attacker May rejoined the home ranks for the clash in Perry Barr - forward Asiah Janny was also handed a place on the bench after being recalled from her loan spell at Boldmere St Michaels.
The Baggies looked to stamp their authority on proceedings early on. Some tricky work from Monique Robinson meant there was space for Marli Rhodes to shoot with the goal at her mercy - but a Hull defender was on the line to block and clear away the danger.
A raft of home attacks just kept coming, and it was Robinson again at the heart of their best forward work. She saw a shot deflected into the path of Ellie May who, with just the goalkeeper to place a shot past - couldn’t beat the onrushing Rebecca Sidwell.
The minutes seemed to be running out for Albion as the game trickled towards half-time, but defender Day was on hand to ensure they didn’t go in frustrated at the break. The 18-year-old Birmingham City loanee rose above the Hull defenders to meet Liv Rabjohn’s inviting corner and nod home for the hosts.
Hodgetts-Still’s side wasted little time in getting their second after halfway. Forward Rhodes wasn’t remotely put off by the two Hull centre-halves as she slipped between both of them to dispatch a low effort past Sidwell - her first goal since November.
Further opportunities came for the hosts later on, Riya Mannu had a golden chance to make it three, but placed just wide before Hope Knight grabbed a late strike for the Tigresses.
That didn’t stop the Baggies from holding out for all three points, though, as they marched to their second win on the spin.
