West Bromwich Albion take on Ipswich Town in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday lunchtime in what will be the club's final encounter at The Hawthorns this season (ko 12.30pm).

James Morrison's Baggies head into the tussle with the automatic-promotion chasers hoping to extend their unbeaten run to ten matches. The Throstles have recorded back-to-back victories over Preston North End (2-0) and Watford (3-0) in the last week.

Visitors Ipswich also picked up three big points in midweek, defeating Charlton Athletic 2-1 at The Valley on Wednesday night - a result which keeps their destiny in their own hands.

The Tractor Boys claimed a narrow win in the reverse fixture back in late October. Jack Clarke scored the game's only goal, seven minutes from time.

The opposition

Ipswich Town have promotion to the Premier League in their own grasp heading into the final trio of second-tier fixtures.

The Tractor Boys are sat on 79 points, with matches against Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium and then QPR at Portman Road to come following their trip to the West Midlands this weekend.

The equation is simple for Saturday's visitors - win all three, and they'll be making an immediate return to English football's top division.

They'll arrive at The Hawthorns having lost just one of their last 12 games, winning seven and drawing four. Town had a slower start to the campaign than they would have liked or anticipated, but, over the last 25 matches, they've picked up the joint-highest amount of points in the division (51) - a spell which has propelled them back up to a position many associated with the club would've expected them to be in at this stage before a ball was kicked back in August.

Ipswich's away record is the eighth-best in the Championship. They've won nine, drawn five and lost seven of their 21 encounters on the road.

Kieran McKenna is the boss. He's been in charge since December 2021 and has managed 220 Town fixtures, winning 104, drawing 63 and losing 53. The 39-year-old, who turns 40 in the middle of May, has also had coaching roles at Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.

Memorable meeting

Albion defeated Saturday's guests 4-0 at The Hawthorns back in September 2007.

Ishmael Miller made it 1-0 in the middle of the first period with a calm finish on the right side of the box. Tony Mowbray's men then had to wait until the latter stages to secure the three second-tier points.

Filipe Teixeira doubled the advantage with three minutes left, slotting beyond Neil Alexander, before Kevin Phillips helped himself to a quickfire brace - converting from the edge of the six-yard box and just outside the penalty area.

Check out the highlights below.

Recent record on home soil against the Tractor Boys

Albion 2-0 Ipswich Town, November 2023

A quick start from the Albion saw Darnell Furlong head home Matty Phillips' corner inside five minutes. Two chances for each side then went begging as Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jed Wallace, Jack Taylor and Wes Burns couldn't convert before half-time. Grady Diangana made no mistake when finishing off his opportunity early in the second half to double the advantage. Phillips could've made it three shortly after, but Albion cruised to all three points against the high-flyers.

Albion 1-1 Ipswich Town, March 2019

Stefan Johansen gave the Baggies the lead in this Spring clash with a deflected free-kick inside the first five minutes. Ipswich goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski was on fine form to keep his side in the game as Albion had a flurry of chances to extend their lead. The hosts would be made to rue their missed opportunities as Jon Nolan headed home an equaliser in the second half to leave Albion nine points off the automatic promotion places.

Albion 2-0 Ipswich Town, August 2009

Albion welcomed Ipswich to The Hawthorns early in the 2009/10 campaign. Youssouf Mulumbu opened the scoring with a brilliant low strike from 25 yards out following a Chris Brunt corner in the first half. The lead was then doubled by Robert Koren, who calmly took the ball around the visiting keeper to finish the game off before the break. Luke Moore had the chance to make it three from the spot, but his shot was saved by Richard Wright. The win saw Albion settle in the top three, while Ipswich were left in the relegation zone.

Pre-match stats

Albion are on a seven-match unbeaten run against Ipswich Town at The Hawthorns (W5, D2). The last time Saturday's visitors won at the home of the Baggies was in March 1999 when Manuel Thetis scored the only goal in a Division One contest.

The Baggies can win three league games in-a-row for the first time since winning three between May and August in 2025 - a run which covered the end of the 2024/25 term and the start of the 2025/26 campaign. The last time Albion claimed three straight league triumphs in the same season was during a run of four between August and September in 2024.

Albion have kept four straight clean sheets and six in the last seven. James Morrison's team have conceded just two goals in those seven games.

The Tractor Boys have scored in 18 of their 21 away matches this season, failing to register a goal in trips to Portsmouth, Millwall and Preston North End.

Ipswich have been leading at half-time in 17 league games this term. They've gone on to win 15 of those, drawing the other two.
