Albion Women welcome Women’s Super League outfit Everton to the Alexander Stadium on Thursday, January 15 (7:30pm) for their Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth-round tie.
Thursday marks a huge occasion for the club, with them facing top-tier opposition for the second year in a row – after travelling to holders at the time, and eventual finalists, Manchester United in 2025.
Hodgetts-Still’s side have sights on producing a giant-killing in Perry Barr, and tickets are available online to buy HERE.
Last time out
Albion beat Leeds United for the second time this season to reach the fourth round. Monique Robinson, Ellie May and Mia Sorrentino broke down a stubborn defence from their Yorkshire opponents to pick up an all-important 3-0 win.
The opposition
WSL Everton enter the Women’s FA Cup at this stage.
Manager Brian Sørensen has steered his side to 10th in the top-tier of the English game this season, where in their most recent win, they inflicted a first defeat on Chelsea in 34 games – keeping their first clean sheet of the campaign in the process.
Last season the Toffees were beaten 4-1 by Chelsea in the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup, where they made it a stage further than the Baggies.
Everton were also winners of the competition before its renaming. They claimed the trophy after a 3-2 win over Arsenal after extra time at the City Ground.
Venue
The Alexander Stadum will play host to Thursday night’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup tie.
Hodgetts-Still's side have won six out of their 11 matches at the Perry Barr-based ground this season.
Pre-match thoughts
Midfielder Phoebe Warner will be hoping to translate her early season goalscoring form across to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Thursday.
Everton will be the third Women’s Super League side that Warner has faced in her four years at the club, having gone toe-to-toe with Brighton and Manchester United in previous editions of the competition.
That experience will serve the 25-year-old creative force well as they look to cause a cup upset at the Alexander Stadium in-front of a buoyant Baggies crowd.
The midfielder believes the team can thrive as the “underdog”, and this is the perfect opportunity to showcase the squad’s ability to a larger audience.
She said: “We’re really excited and looking forward to it. It’s going to be a challenge to face Everton and a team from the WSL.
“We’re looking forward to the challenge and we’re excited to be on TNT Sports too. It’s a huge opportunity, whenever we get through to the next round, we always can’t wait to see who we’ve got next.
“We seem to get drawn against big teams a lot, but it’s excited to play someone outside of our league. It gives us the opportunity to do something different, we’re looking forward to it.
“We’re expecting them to be in great physical condition, and very astute tactically. I think if we work hard, and we go into the game positively – you never know what could happen.
“As for the players, I think Ruby Mace will be good to go up against, she’ll be one of their strong players, that’ll definitely be a test for us, but I think they’ll all be very strong.
“I think our cup final against Rugby Borough is a perfect example of us doing well as the underdog. We weren’t sure how that one would go, but on the night – we just performed.
“Cup games have a different element to them, and we’re hopeful that we’ll have that feeling again. We were excited to play Man United last night, it was amazing to walk out against players that you recognise, my family and friends were all watching – it was special.
“We worked really hard in that game, and I don’t think that result was reflective of the performance that night.
“It’s exciting, we don’t often get to play on TV at all, so it’s an opportunity to grow our fanbase and for people to watch us. For us to be on TV, it’s really nice and we hope it leads to people coming to watch us in person at the Alexander Stadium.
“I’d encourage all fans to come and support us, get behind us and cheer us on. It really does help having an atmosphere, hearing cheers, especially when you’re working really hard – it’s nice to have that extra boost from the fans.”
