New Albion Women addition Abbey Jones says there was a “huge draw” to join the club after making her switch from WSL2 Durham.
The 23-year-old became the Baggies’ third summer signing, following the additions of Lucy Day and Harriet Grimshaw, and will aim to bolster the team’s attacking arsenal ahead of the 2026/27 season.
A forward-thinking midfielder, Jones has enjoyed academy experiences across the Midlands, playing for the likes of Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Derby County, before a spell stateside with the University of North Carolina.
After experiencing the second tier with Durham last term, the prospect of reaching the upper echelons of the FAWNL Northern Premier is a prospect that excites Abbey greatly.
She said: “It’s been very good so far. I’ve enjoyed meeting the girls and the coaching staff across the last week, we had a great first training session together.
“I’ve played with Liv Rabjohn before, and it’s really nice to play with her again, but all of the girls have been absolutely brilliant with me and welcomed me in with open arms.
“I had some great conversations with the coaches and staff, along with Liv. She was a big factor in joining. There are great facilities here, some fantastic people, and I’m just buzzing to get started here.
“I think we spoke about our aims for the season, and what we want to get out of the campaign ahead. We believe we should be fighting at the top of the table, and we want to win as many games as possible.
“That was a huge draw in me joining here, I fully believe in what I’ve seen here so far, in terms of the coaches, staff and players, we’re all very positive and want to make the difference on the pitch.
“I’m an attacking midfielder, I’m creative and versatile. I’m happy to play out wide or in the midfield, and I like to add goals and assists to my game too. I’m delighted to be here.”
