Young Lions honour for Baggies pair

Albion duo Kyle Edwards and Sam Field have both been named in England's squad for the prestigious Maurice Revello Toulon Tournament this summer.

The Baggies pair, both 21, will be travelling to France looking to help the Young Lions defend the title they have successfully claimed for the last three successive years.

England head into June's tournament aiming to make history and become only the second side to claim the title four years in a row in the tournament’s 47-year history, matching France between 2004 and 2007.

Edwards made 11 first-team appearances for Albion last season, scoring twice including the winner at Brentford, while Field featured on 18 occasions and found the net in the club's 2-0 triumph at Bolton Wanderers.

England will face Japan, Portugal and Chile in the group stages of the Toulon Tournament:

  • England v Japan - Stade de Lattre, Aubagne, Saturday, June 1 (2pm ko BST)
  • England v Portugal - Stade d’Honneur, Salon, Tuesday, June 4 (6pm ko BST)
  • England v Chile – Stade Parsemain, Fos-sur-Mer, Friday, June 7 (7pm ko BST)

England Under-20s head coach Paul Simpson said: “In our group we’re playing very different types of opposition.

"Japan’s energy and technical ability will be a real test, Portugal are always a strong nation throughout the age groups and play very similarly tactically, while Chile will give us a chance to play a South American team which we don’t get to do often.

“It’s a challenge that we’re really looking forward to and we’ll be confident going into the games and looking to get through to the semi-finals."

Should England progress from the group stages, the semi-finals take place on Wednesday, June 12 before the final is held in Salon on Saturday, June 15.

Good luck, lads!
