On this day in 1900...

One of the most significant days in Albion history, The Hawthorns staged its first ever game with a crowd of 20,500 turning up to take it in.

The opponents were Derby County who had the temerity to take the lead through the great England striker Steve Bloomer.

Albion ensured there was a happy ending of sorts by coming back to equalise through “Chippy” Simmons.
