Terraneo in profile

GIULIANO Terraneo joins Albion as a Technical Consultant with a rich footballing pedigree.

Operating at an elite level as both player and staff, Terraneo was most recently Sporting Director at Turkish giants Fenerbahce in 2016.

It is a much-travelled career that has seen the 64-year-old work alongside football's biggest names at some of the most prestigious clubs in Europe, his CV boasting roles with Lazio and Inter Milan.

It was in Italian football where Giuliano began his playing career as a goalkeeper with Monza in 1974. A move to Torino in 1977 saw him make 193 appearances, before his footballing journey took him to AC Milan and Lecce, via Lazio.

After playing over 500 professional games, 360 of which came in Serie A, the top level of Italian football, he laid down his gloves and began further education on his path to senior management.

He gained his Masters qualification as General and Sporting Director in the Academy of the Italian Football Federation at Coverciano, returning to Monza for his first role as General Director in 1990.

Back where it all began, Giuliano helped his hometown club win the Serie C Cup in a seven-year spell. But it was in player development where he found real success. His new role saw him launch the careers of future Italy stars Roberto Baggio, Antonio Asia, Aldo Serena and Christian Abbiati, as well as many others who graduated to Serie A.

Giuliano's fine work with Monza did not go unnoticed, and a move to another former club, Lazio, came in 1997 after a brief period with Como. His honours with 'I Biancoelesti' included the Serie A title, European Cup Winners' Cup and Super Cup. He was headhunted by Inter Milan two years later as a result, joining as Sporting Director, taking ownership of all first-team market activities and talent identification.

It was at Inter where Giuliano showed his worth on the biggest stage. He proved instrumental in securing the signatures of high-profile stars; Ronaldo, Adriano, Clarence Seedorf and Fabio Cannavaro to name but a handful.

In April 2003 he was approached by Jaume Llaurado to become Sporting Director of FC Barcelona. This was dependent on Llaurado's election as President of the Catalan club, but, after Giuliano's resignation from Inter, the election was lost and the deal fell through.

Then came the opportunity for Giuliano to join Fenerbahce, his most recent Sporting Director role, where his history of outstanding acquisitions continued. Robin van Persie and Luis Nani were brought to Istanbul during his tenure.

Since leaving the 19-time Turkish League champions, Giuliano has worked as an international consultant for clubs across the football pyramid.
