West Bromwich Albion travel down to the capital city to take on Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm).

Both sides will be looking to respond positively to disappointing defeats in midweek. The Baggies fell to a 2-0 loss at home to Blackburn Rovers, while Millwall were beaten 5-1 at Plymouth Argyle.

The two teams played out a goalless draw in the reverse fixture back in October - the fourth consecutive draw between Albion and the Lions.

The hosts

Millwall will be hurting from their midweek thrashing at the hands of Plymouth Argyle, a result which few would have predicted given the Londoners recent form.

The hosts were in fine fettle heading into their clash in Devon, claiming victory in four straight games in all competitions - which included a superb FA Cup success over table-topping Leeds United at Elland Road.

Alex Neil will be expecting a response from his players on home soil, and it will certainly be a challenging encounter for the Baggies in what is always a tough place to go for any side in the second tier.

The Lions currently sit 14th in the Sky Bet Championship with 40 points, seven behind Mowbray's side, who occupy the final play-off spot.

With 10 wins, 10 draws and 11 defeats this season so far, Millwall need to find some consistency - and will hope that their midweek mis-step is no more than a blip.

They'll be aiming to bounce back on Saturday afternoon, knowing that three points could help them push for what previously seemed an unlikely tilt at the top six heading into the run-in.

The stats

All of the last four head-to-heads have ended level, with three of those finishing 0-0. Millwall were the last team to win this fixture, claiming a 2-1 victory in October 2022. Callum Styles, now a key member of the Albion side, scored the Lions' first that particular day.

Millwall are unbeaten in their last seven games against the Baggies (W2, D5). Albion's last win against Saturday's hosts was the 2-0 triumph in February 2020.

This weekend's clash will be the 49th between the two clubs. Millwall have 18 victories to their name, Albion have 15, with 15 draws also being played out.

Tony Mowbray will be taking on the Lions for a 21st time on Saturday. It will make Millwall the team he faced the joint-most amount of times as a boss in his career (Hull City also 21 games).

Albion drew 1-1 away to Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.

An own-goal ensured the Baggies claimed a point after Jake Cooper had initially put the hosts ahead - and neither team managed to grab a second-half winner.

Tony Mowbray rung the changes following Albion’s midweek defeat, bringing in Semi Ajayi, Ousmane Diakite, Jed Wallace, Grady Diangana and Will Lankshear.

Lukas Jensen saved Adam Armstrong’s quick effort but otherwise it was the Lions who created the early chances. Cooper should have done better when directing a header narrowly over, while Casper De Norre and Femi Azeez both finished narrowly off-target.

They then scored via Cooper on 19 minutes - the defender nodding home at the back post. Yet that goal seemed to shock Albion into life, with Darnell Furlong seeing his low cross netted by a Millwall player for an equaliser almost out of nowhere.

And the visitors concluded the half stronger despite not scoring again, most notably smacking the crossbar through Diangana’s deflected side-footer.

Albion were indebted to Joe Wildsmith during the start of the second period, the goalkeeper brilliantly tipping over Cooper’s attempt before somehow denying Japhet Tanganga from the resulting corner.

Numerous disruptions made it a disjointed 45 minutes where opportunities became increasingly hard to find, though there was a lovely moment as Daryl Dike returned to action for the first time in more than a year.

Wildsmith stopped another three Millwall shots towards the end - halting substitute Camiel Neghli twice alongside smartly gathering a rebound.

John Swift struck Albion’s best late opening wide, too, leaving the spoils to be shared in the capital.

Albion: Wildsmith; Furlong, Ajayi, Heggem, Styles (Holgate 70); Molumby, Diakite; Wallace (Fellows 70), Diangana (Swift 77), Armstrong (Dike 77); Lankshear (Grant 57).

Substitutes: Griffiths, Mowatt, Price, Johnston.
