“I knew I had to take this opportunity and I’m delighted to come into a new environment here at Albion to help continue my progression,” said Lucas.

“I’m a central midfielder who likes to dictate play, drive through lines and play progressive passes. I feel my player profile fits the style of play in the U21 team and I’ve got belief in my ability, but the biggest thing I’m aiming for is to become a consistent feature in the side.”

On Lucas linking up with Albion’s young professionals, Academy Manager Richard Stevens said: “I’m a fan of the players who come in with hunger, a point to prove and want to show they can cope, and Kayden is one of those.

“He joins us from Newcastle and during the trial period, he did very well. He’s hungry to be part of this football club, and his tall stature and ability with the ball are factors I know we can help him develop further this season.

“Physically, he’s different to what we have in the squad and he’ll have to show his qualities because there’s a lot of talent looking to push their careers on but, hopefully, that competition will drive his desire to succeed here.”

Welcome to the Albion, Kayden!
