Albion Women Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still says her side were “brilliant” in the second half of their Adobe Women’s FA Cup round-one victory over Solihull Moors on Sunday.
The Baggies were held during a frustrating first half at Studley Sports Centre, but soon came to life as Marli Rhodes, Zoe Creaney and an own goal secured a 3-0 win and a spot in the second round.
Hodgetts-Still, who made 11 changes from their midweek defeat to Burnley, was pleased with the way her side played in the second period compared to the first.
She said: “I’m really happy that we got the win and are through to the next round. I thought it was a game of two halves really.
“In the first half even though we dominated possession, I thought we were quite wasteful. In and around the box, we didn't quite make the right decision in the right moment.
“In the second half, I thought we were excellent for the first 25-30 minutes. We moved the ball with purpose and quality, our decision-making was brilliant and we scored three very good goals.
“In the second half, we just had to move the ball a little bit quicker, show feet and try to entice them out so we could then find the gaps. I thought the ideas were there in the first half but maybe the quality and the decision-making in the final third wasn't.
“I think it's good that we've got the squad depth to change it, especially with the games that we have got coming up.
“We’re happy to get through to the next round of the cup and now it’s obviously onto Wednesday.”
Forward Simran Jhamat forced the own goal for Albion’s second and believes the team “clicked” in the second half.
“I really enjoyed it,” Jhamat said. “I think we just weren't clicking in the first 45, but we knew it was coming.
“In the second half, we came out with a different mentality to just keep playing, making runs in-behind and obviously it paid off as well.
“It’s a really good day, we’re into the next round and I'm really excited.
“It's just about building these connections back up. As soon as we clicked, we just went for it and we got the win our performance deserved.”
The Baggies are next in action on Wednesday, October 29, when they take on Rugby Borough at the Nationwide Windows Arena.
