Albion Women Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still believes her side were “excellent” despite Black Country derby defeat to Wolves at Molineux on Sunday.
The Baggies were on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline, where the only goal of the game came from Amber Hughes’ 76th-minute header in Wolverhampton.
Still, Hodgetts-Still’s side had plenty of scoring opportunities, and it’s those they’ve come to regret as they were forced to walk away from the FAWNL Northern Premier encounter empty-handed.
She said: “We’re disappointed that we didn’t get anything from the game. I thought we deserved something, performance-wise we were excellent throughout.
“In the first half, we were the better team, but we didn’t take our chances. We’re not happy that we lost the game, but there are lots of positives to take. I’m really proud of the shift and efforts that the girls put in.
“We’ve spoken about it at the end, but we’ve got to take our chances - especially in the first half. We should’ve scored in the game, but if we don’t, then we can’t win.
“We were excellent, and the shape was brilliant. We counter-attacked quickly and created some good moments. Even as we looked a bit leggy during the last 20 minutes, again, that’s something we have to look at as staff.
“On the whole, we’re disappointed that we lost, but we have to take the positives, and we’ve got three big games left now.”
Defender Izzy Green insists that Albion were the “better side” in a hotly-contested local derby at Molineux, and that had they taken their chances, would’ve seen a very different scoreline.
She said: “We were excellent from start to finish, we were so unfortunate not to come away with anything. There are lots of positives to take, and we’ll be sure to focus on those moving forward.
“I thought we were the better team, and if we took those chances, it could’ve been a different game. If we went one-nil up, we felt we would’ve had something to defend, which we do very well.
“Their goal was a switch of play and then a cross into the box that we haven’t defended. It’s frustrating when you have those chances and don’t take them - but that’s something we need to work on for next week,
“Everytime we play them, we get better and better. Today was a tight game, again, we’re gutted we didn’t get anything from the game.”
