Wolves 1-0 Albion Women

Simran Jhamat battles at Molineux.

Albion Women suffered a narrow defeat to Wolves in their FAWNL Northern Premier clash at Molineux on Sunday afternoon.

Amber Hughes’ late goal was the difference, despite plenty of visiting chances in Wolverhampton.

Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made just one change to the winning side from The Hawthorns last weekend as skipper Liv Rabjohn replaced defender Zoe Creaney.

The Baggies had a sizeable early opening when Simran Jhamat’s sliding ball found Riya Mannu escaping beyond the Wolves’ back-line, but just as she looked to pull the trigger, Anna Morphet got across to make a vital intervention.

After home forward Charlotte Greengrass nodded wide from close range, Mannu was the architect of another visiting opportunity. Her neat footwork found Taylor Reynolds in space, who slid a low finish past the onrushing goalkeeper - only to see it fall marginally wide.

Jhamat looked to head in Reynolds’ cross at the start of the second half, but nodded into the stand behind the goal, before Hughes saw a shot blocked by Naomi Sharp at close range.

Substitute Marli Rhodes came charging in to reach Mannu’s setback after a swift break, but couldn’t make clean contact on the strike, before Wolves eventually scored with 14 minutes to play.

Home forward Hughes got a deft touch on an inviting cross, with the Baggies unable to find a strike in reply - leaving them to mull a slender 1-0 scoreline at Molineux.
