West Bromwich Albion travel to Sheffield Wednesday for the 46th and final game of the 2025/26 Sky Bet Championship campaign on Saturday lunchtime (ko 12.30pm).

The Baggies picked up a point at home to Ipswich Town last weekend, a result which confirmed their place in the second tier next season.

Hosts Sheffield Wednesday have endured a really challenging campaign. The Owls, who have had 18 points deducted during the current term, were relegated to Sky Bet League One as early February. They were beaten 4-1 at Oxford United last Saturday.

The two teams couldn't be separated when they went head-to-head at The Hawthorns back in November, drawing 0-0.

The opposition

Sheffield Wednesday will be determined to secure a victory in front of their own supporters on the final day of what's been a really difficult campaign.

The Owls have faced challenges on and off the pitch in 2025/26, winning just one of their 45 league matches and being hit with an 18-point deduction.

Saturday's hosts were relegated in February and have been cut adrift at the bottom of the second-tier table for the majority of the season.

Wednesday will head into Saturday's showdown with the Baggies without a win in any of their last 40 games in all competitions. The last time they secured a triumph was back in September when they won 2-0 at Portsmouth.

Henrik Pedersen's men lost recent back-to-back away games at Middlesbrough and Oxford United, however, prior to those defeats, the Owls picked up three straight draws, holding Leicester City and Charlton Athletic at Hillsborough, as well as champions Coventry City on the road.

Pedersen, a 48-year-old Dane, was appointed in July 2025 having also managed HB Køge, Eintracht Braunschweig, Strømsgodset and Vendsyssel FF. He's yet to record a victory at Hillsborough, and will have his sights firmly set on giving the bumper home crowd something to cheer about after an arduous year.

Albion's recent record at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 Albion, September 2024

The Baggies suffered a late defeat at Hillsborough last season. The hosts were 2-0 up at the break following an own goal from Darnell Furlong and a Josh Windass effort. The Baggies fought back and drew level courtesy of a Josh Maja header and an Alex Mowatt strike from the edge of the box. However, there was still time for one final twist. Anthony Musaba converted a cross in the 86th minute to hand Wednesday all three points and inflict a first league loss of the term on Carlos Corberán's outfit.

Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Albion, April 2024

The hosts were worthy winners on the penultimate day of the 2023/24 season. Anthony Musaba's goal in the middle of the first period gave Wednesday a 1-0 lead at the break. Ike Ugbo and Josh Windass added further strikes in the second half as the Owls sealed a big win on their way to securing Sky Bet Championship safety.

Sheffield Wednesday 0-3 Albion, July 2020

Slaven Bilić's Baggies earned an important triumph at Sheffield Wednesday on their way to securing promotion to the Premier League in the summer of 2020. Charlie Austin gave the visitors a 37th-minute lead from the penalty spot, but it was Brazilian Matheus Pereira who settled matters in the second period. The attacker nodded in a Kieran Gibbs cross from the left to make it 2-0, before slamming home from close range to seal all three points. Check out the highlights below.

Memorable meeting

The Baggies were 4-0 winners at Hillsborough in November 2009.

The visitors were 3-0 up at half-time thanks to Simon Cox's brace and Jerome Thomas' strike.

Former Owl Chris Brunt scored the fourth with five minutes remaining. Check out the highlights below.

Pre-match stats

Albion have the opportunity to end the 2025/26 term 11 matches unbeaten on Saturday. The Baggies have won four and drawn six of their last ten Sky Bet Championship fixtures.
