Albion’s PL2 team were beaten 3-0 by Crystal Palace at the VBS Community Stadium on Monday night.

Ademola Ola-Adebomi netted either side of Roshaun Mathurin’s goal without a response from the Baggies’ young pros, who suffered a fourth straight league defeat in South London.

There were no opportunities for Richard Beale’s team during the first 45, with the home side applying constant pressure in pursuit of an opener.

This approach kept the Black Country boys penned in for much of the opening proceedings and only last-ditch defending and the woodwork stopped them from trailing at the interval, with Franco Umeh seeing an effort cleared off the line and Ola-Adebomi rattling the crossbar from the second attempt.

The latter would make Albion pay in the early knockings off the second 45, though, as Ola-Adebomi tapped in a rebound after goalkeeper Ronnie Hollingshead had parried an earlier effort at goal.

Things got worse for Albion’s academy products within three minutes of the breakthrough, Mathurin slamming home a loose ball in the box after the visitors had failed to clear their lines following an attack down the right.

Two then became three when Ola-Adebomi doubled his tally for the night on 69 minutes and his second would turn out to be the last decisive act of the evening, meaning Beale’s team are without a win in the Premier League 2 since their opening-day triumph over Aston Villa in August.

Albion: Hollingshead; Nelson, Hall ©️, Phillips (Bostock 84), Shaw (Kirton 53); Richards, Mfuamba; Walker (Mandey 46), Heard, Higgins; Love (Sule 84).
