Alfie Gilchrist started again for Sky Bet League One side Leyton Orient during a positive display over the weekend.

It was the defender's second consecutive outing from the off (and sixth across all competitions) since returning from injury for The O's, and having helped Richie Wellens' team keep a shutout in their last game (a 0-0 draw with Bradford City), the 22-year-old ensured his loan club kept back-to-back clean sheets after beating Blackpool 2-0 at home.

Will Forrester and Dane Scarlett netted the goals which lifted Orient up to ninth in England's third-tier standings, with Gilchrist playing the full game to help keep momentum rolling for the East London outfit.

The final qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup occupied plenty of Albion's youngsters on Saturday.

Cole Deeming made his ninth appearance for Hartlepool United as they fought to book their place in the first round proper of the competition on home soil against Enterprise National League North outfit, Marine.

Unfortunately, the young midfielder couldn't ensure his team's progression further as they conceded two second-half goals to bow out of England's oldest cup competition. Deeming played 78 minutes of the encounter before being substituted.

His fellow Baggies academy colleague, Ollie Bostock, suffered the same fate in the tournament with fellow fifth-tier side Boston United - playing 90 minutes in a 3-1 home defeat to Scunthorpe United.

Forward Jaiden Francis-Caesar got a taste of FA Cup qualifying football off the bench for Southern Premier Central side Alvechurch, who forced a dramatic replay after falling 2-0 down away at Spalding United.

Dan Jarvis' brace either side of half-time put Jaiden's loan club up against it heading into the closing stages, but from the 82nd minute onwards, the Church halved the deficit to gain momentum before levelling in the 92nd minute courtesy of Miracle Okafor's double.

Francis-Caesar was introduced with just under a quarter of the match to go - playing his part as Kyle Storer's men maintained their hopes of qualifying for the first round proper alive when they take play Spalding at Lye Meadow on Tuesday, October 20 (ko 7.45pm).

As usual, shot-stopper Brian Okonkwo started between the sticks for Leamington in the Southern Premier Central, but couldn't prevent them losing 2-1 at home to Needham Market.

Ryan Miles put the visitors in the lead twice - either side of Chris Wreh's equaliser for the hosts - which is how the scoreline remained until the full-time whistle. That's not to say the encounter went without it's drama for the latter stages of the clash, as the second period proved to be a feisty encounter which saw both sides end the game with 10 men.

Centre-back Jamal Mohammed was the only other Albion youth product who featured over the weekend - stepping off the bench for NL North outfit King's Lynn Town in their 1-1 draw with Merthyr Town.

The 20-year-old was introduced in the 52nd minute with Lynn a goal behind following Ben Margetson's first-half effort, but Kwame Thomas' 70th-minute leveller made the long trip home a more positive one having secured a share of the spoils - a point which leaves them fourth in the table.

Finally, defenders Carter Pinnington and Alex Williams were unused subs for National League side Solihull Moors and Scottish Premiership team Hibernian respectively.

Both saw their teams lose by the same scoreline, with the former watching a 2-1 defeat to Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup, while the latter spectated over a home defeat to Falkirk.
