Isaac Price & Callum Styles end internationals on winning note

Albion duo Isaac Price and Callum Styles were both involved as their nations claimed hard-fought wins on Tuesday night.

Midfielder Price made the biggest impact for a 10-man Northern Ireland team, scoring the decisive goal and earning the Player of the Match award in a 1-0 triumph over Iceland on home soil.

The 21-year-old played 91 minutes at Windsor Park before being replaced in added time.

It was Isaac who took control of the contest just after the half-hour mark - picking the ball up on the left side of the 18-yard box before curling a precise finish into the bottom corner.

However, things threatened to take a turn for the worse when Brodie Spencer was shown a straight red card for the hosts 12 minutes into the second period.

Thankfully, for Price and the boss Michael O’Neill’s side, they were able to withstand plenty of Icelandic pressure to claim an important victory in front of their home supporters.

And not only did Isaac net a fine goal, but his effort also saw him make history for the Green and White Army on their 700th international game - becoming the youngest player to score nine times in the Northern Ireland senior team at the age of 21.

There was similar positivity for Baggies team-mate Styles, who ended his time with the Hungarian national side by helping them seal a 2-1 victory over Azerbaijan.

The 25-year-old, who was an unused substitute during his nation’s maiden friendly against Sweden last week, entered Tuesday’s clash in Baku on 72 minutes.

Goals from Ferencvárosi's Barnabas Varga and Liverpool's Domink Szoboszlai during the opening stages meant the full-back joined proceedings with Hungary in a strong position - one the Albion man helped them hold onto until the final whistle.

It helps manager Marco Rossi’s men build momentum ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September, and Styles will hope an encouraging start to the new season can help him feature in those fixtures too.
