Albion Women won their seventh match in-a-row as they beat Derby County in the FAWNL Northern Premier on Sunday afternoon.
A dominant first-half, topped off by a duo of strikes from Jess Collyer and Monique Robinson, put Charlie Fripp’s side in the driver’s seat at halfway.
And it took Robinson’s second to seal the victory in Mickleover, when she prodded away the Baggies’ third to ensure an all-important three points.
They’re next in action in midweek when they face Sutton Coldfield Town at the Alexander Stadium in their BCFA Challenge Cup first-round tie.
After a combative opening to proceedings, it took the Baggies 17 minutes to take the lead in Derbyshire. After Rhianne Oakley drilled a cross into the box, Collyer was on hand to turn the ball into the back of the net for the opener, despite the best efforts of Lucy Jones in the home goal.
It took them no more than three minutes to double their lead, too. This time Oakley saw two efforts bravely blocked by the Ewe Rams defence, leaving midfielder Robinson to crash home the rebound for a visiting second.
Izzy Green could’ve made it three just before half-time, but the Baggies weren’t to mind as they remained in control at the break.
Further chances greeted Charlie Fripp’s side in the second period. Liv Rabjohn and Collyer saw opportunities narrowly miss the target, but the visitors made it three soon after.
Substitute Izzy Lane’s excellent breakaway left her alone with the goalkeeper, and she unselfishly squared to Robinson to tap home her brace.
Ella Haughey and Rhianne Rush watched their ambitious attempts fly agonisingly wide of the target as they looked for a fourth visiting goal, but Albion were happy to settle for three goals, and three points in Micklover.
