Dara O'Shea | 'Swifty oozes class'

John Swift and Dara O'Shea celebrate a Baggies goal

Albion skipper Dara O’Shea has described team-mate John Swift as a “classy performer” and believes the playmaker can have an influential role in the season run-in.

Swift delivered a stellar showing in the club’s impressive 2-0 victory at home to high-flying Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon and had a huge hand in both of the goals Daryl Dike scored.

Swift has nine goal involvements to his name in the Sky Bet Championship so far this term, second only in the Baggies ranks to Jed Wallace who has 12.

And O’Shea thinks the former Reading man’s “quality” could prove crucial to their chances of finishing the campaign in a successful manner.

Dara said: “I think it’s clear for everyone to see just how good Swifty is.

“He’s a classy performer who has so much quality. He oozes class.

“I thought he was brilliant on Saturday against Middlesbrough and he obviously played a huge part in both of our goals.

“He has this habit of picking up the ball in areas of the pitch which are really dangerous. You need those players in your team because they are the players who can create chances.

“As a defender, you know that when you look up, he’s probably going to be in a really good position to receive the ball.

“He's certainly more than capable of playing a huge role for us in the last few months of the season.

“We’ve managed to put ourselves in a position where we have a shot at making the play-offs and now it’s about making sure we get as much as we can from our remaining 13 games.

“I know he’s already scored a few goals and he’s got a fair few assists too, but I’m sure he’ll be targeting more.

“It’s up to us to give him the ball when he finds space for himself because he has the ability to produce a moment of quality that opens up opposition defences, just like we saw on Saturday.”
