Albion Women Interim Head Coach Charlie Fripp believes his team have the “resilience and mindset” to achieve a positive season.
The Baggies beat Rugby Borough 1-0 on Sunday afternoon, Naomi Sharp scored the only goal of the game at the Alexander Stadium as they secured their fourth win on the bounce in all competitions.
Fripp’s side have struggled with injuries of late, and he’s been most impressed with the mental toughness shown by his side to string together such a run of form.
He said: “It’s the best feeling to win like that. The girls put in a great shift and ground out a great win. I couldn’t be prouder of them again; they’re starting to turn the cogs now this season.
“We’re never down and out, regardless of how many injuries we have, how many players aren’t feeling 100 per cent. We work together, and the result showed that.
“It’s incredibly great to see. The resilience and the mindset the girls have is next level, they look after each other and keep going when they’re down. It takes a lot of pressure away from me and means we can focus on the football.
“A lot of these moments and results come from us focusing on ourselves. Our game plan was to match them with what they do, they’re a great side physically, and we knew we needed to be too - there were times when we played some great football too.
“The girls executed a gameplan; it’s three points, and we’re so pleased with how far we’ve come over the last few games.”
Versatile Sharp made it two goals to her Albion tally with a 25-yard screamer to beat the Borough at the Alex, and playing in her new position in midfield - she feels flexibility can be key for her side moving forward.
She said: “There’s not much I can say, I’m so happy, and the girls worked so hard all game. They put in a great shift, and we got the win. I’m so pleased with us today.
“In that moment, I didn’t know what to do. I was screaming for Tara Kirk to set me, and when she did, I just had to hit it. We knew before the game what their game plan was going to be and it was going to be direct - we had to stay connected.
“It’s really important to be versatile, and we’ll play wherever he puts us. I’ve made the most of being in a new position, and you just have to adapt.
“We linked up together really well, and showed what we could do. The defence was brilliant, and the attack caused them problems all game - I’m very happy.”
